Esten Ray "Pete" Peterie, was born on January 15, 1917, and he died on February 4, 1998, at the age of 81 at his home in Farmington, Iowa.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre with the 20th Infantry Regiment during WWII. He was awarded several decorations including the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Staff Sergeant.
After his military service, he was employed at White McCoy Hatchery in Kahoka, Missouri. He was a member of the 20th Infantry Reserves, the NRA, and AARP. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. He loved visiting with friends and always had a pack of gum to share. He was also known to be a teller of tall tales.
He was blessed with three daughters; Linda Hymes of Tioga, Illinois, Susan Gilbert of Keokuk, Iowa, and Sara Livermore of Wildomar, California, and one son; John B. Peterie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the time of his death he had six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was the son of Bart and Ethel Harness Peterie. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Lester and Keith Peterie, one great-grandson, and one niece.
